Letter of Principles

At present, humanity undergoes one of the most crucial crises in all of its history. The devastation of our planet is an ever more present reality: forests are reduced to deserts, thousands of animal and plant species disappear forever, the water and the air are contaminated, and even the ozone layer of the biosphere is wounded. If this process is not reverted, the most immediate result will be the destruction of the natural resources upon which our very existence depends.

Seringal-river3Beyond this, a greater danger exists: that the human being may come to forget the true meaning of his humanity. Man is continually being attended and nourished by Nature in the plenitude of Her mineral, vegetable and animal kingdoms. In the purity and transparency of water that sustains life, in the mysteries of trees and plants that through photosynthesis teach us to receive the sunlight and transmute it, in the many species of our animal kingdom, Nature gives of Herself so that we may live.

A distorted perception of this generosity, brought about by arrogance and presumption, led modern man to see Nature as subordinate, and his humanity according to his capacity to dominate Her as well as his fellow beings.

Under the violence of that impulse, Nature is treated as an object to be manipulated by man's greed. This perspective, that renders the hand of man undesirable, is set against a millinery tradition that understands Nature as Divine Presence manifest in water, trees, air, sun and moon. For us, Nature attends and assists man because She is superior. The path of the full realization of our potentialities begins by acknowledging Nature as sacred. This acknowledgment grows together with a process of the search for our true essence and our authentic vocation. We attain our true humanity when we become an instrument for the expression of Divine Nature; in this light Man is also sacred.

Seringal-riverWe therefore believe that the ecological task is centered on the reevaluation of the man/Nature relationship. The New Enchantment Association for the Preservation of Nature affirms its goal to preserve and enhance the environment through sustainable development. And, most of all, to work for the growth of the spiritual understanding of Nature and of our integration therein. Thus, we align ourselves with all those who, in different parts of the planet, work toward the same objective: To weave once again the threads that re-link us to Nature, to our fellow-beings and to our very selves. Thus, the principles that orientate our Association are:

Thus, we align ourselves with all those who, in different parts of the planet, work toward the same objective: To weave once again the threads that re-link us to Nature, to our fellow-beings and to our very selves.

Thus, the principles that orientate our Association are:

  1. To act for the understanding that the only dominion that is ours to exert over nature is the process of self-knowledge and self-discipline over human nature; self-dominion.
  2. To replace the destructive attitude man has towards Nature with a relationship of communion. And, in this common-union, become One with Her.
  3. Human beings express their degree of integration with Nature through their practice and attitudes, uniting themselves with all those who share this same ideal. And from this Union grows the force that shall lead the people and the movements that work for life and for peace to the realization of their goals.
  4. To join the establishment of environmental conservation projects with activities that may bring a growing number of people to the awareness of the significance of our present crisis as well as the means of creatively transcending it.
  5. The responsibility of each human being today implies a deep transformation of our relationship to the planet Earth. For this transformation to occur, we need once again to experience Nature in Her enchantments.
